A Fusion of Form and Function
Introduced at Milan Design Week, where aesthetics often overshadow utility, Audio-Technica’s Hotaru turntable masterfully blends both. Its upper section hovers above the base, suspended by magnets that minimize vibrations, while emitting a soft, color-shifting glow that pulses in harmony with the music from the vinyl, transforming the Hotaru into an integral part of the listening experience.
Audio-Technica will produce only 1,000 units, each priced at $9,999, with deliveries slated for October 2025. Pre-orders are now available on the company’s website, and reservations close on May 30, 2025, giving you time to weigh this luxurious investment.

Innovative Levitation Technology
Levitating turntables aren’t entirely novel; they’re one of several techniques to reduce vibrations, prevent needle skips, and enhance sound precision. Unlike earlier models like the MAG-LEV, which suspends only the rotating platter, the Hotaru’s entire upper assembly—including the tonearm and DC motor that drives the record—floats effortlessly.
Crafted from translucent acrylic that conceals a belt-drive mechanism, this upper section is illuminated by internal lights offering three distinct modes. Choose from 20 static color schemes, a Gradient Mode that smoothly cycles through hues, or a Link Mode where the lighting dances to the rhythm of your music. Unlike vibrant party speakers, the Hotaru’s lighting is understated, creating a serene ambiance rather than a pulsating dancefloor vibe.

Premium Design and Audio
The Hotaru’s base, constructed from robust aluminum with solid brass feet, houses a built-in audio system featuring two 63.5-millimeter full-range speakers and dual tweeters. It also includes a line-out port for integration with external audio setups and a dedicated subwoofer output for those seeking to amplify bass frequencies.
